TonerCoil™ Wire Locator

Description

Never lose a prewire lead again! Use TonerCoil™ to position wire stub outs at any point in wall or ceiling cavities. Use it for all types of prewire applications -- with or without BackBoxx™! Use TonerCoil™ in one of three ways:

  • Stub out: Staple TonerCoil™ across wall studs or ceiling joists -- push wire through any of the pre-punched starburst holes to stub out. You can even mark any special instructions to the drywall installer on the face of the TonerCoil™.

  • Prewire: Attach TonerCoil™ between wall studs or ceiling joists and coil the wire for later tone-out -- no need to use wire staples to hold wire in place (which may damage wire during later removal).

  • BackBoxx™: Fit TonerCoil™ into BackBoxx™ for perfect prewire alignment and location during toning at finish.

Using TonerCoil™ To Position Wire Into BackBoxx™ Original™  

For Later Toning Behind Drywall: 

Wire positioning with the TonerCoil™ produces a concentrated signal tone during later locating & provides extra wire length to connect speakers. 

  1. Pull approximately 36” of speaker wire through the Wire Dimple Locator ™ in the BackBoxx Original and through the center of the 3 starburst openings in the TonerCoil. 
  2. Fold the TonerCoil to form a triangular column and lock the tab. Wrap the loose speaker wire around the TonerCoil in a spiral pattern and finally, push the last 2” of wire through another of the starburst openings in the TonerCoil.   
  3. Push the entire TonerCoil into the BackBoxx Original and pull any slack speaker wire from behind the BackBoxx to help hold the TonerCoil in place.  Be sure the tip of the speaker wire is facing the open part of the BackBoxx. 
  4. Later, during speaker installation, when the drywall hole is cut, reach in and remove the TonerCoil and discard. 
  5. Use the bullseye target on the back wall of the BackBoxx Original to perfectly center the speaker between the framing and to match it with the pairing speaker. 

 

Using TonerCoil™ To Stub Out Wires During Prewire: 

Staple TonerCoil™ horizontally across outward facing edge of the studs or joists. 

 

  1. Select one or more of the three starburst holes on the TonerCoil, and push approximately 8" of wire through the hole. 
  2. Leaving some extra slack, lightly secure the wire(s) remaining in the stud cavity to one of the framing sidewalls near the back of the TonerCoil. 
  3. It is recommended that the installer write “Stub Wire Out” or similar instructions on the TonerCoil for the insulators and drywallers so that the wires will remain accessible. 

  

Using TonerCoil™ To Position Future Use Wires During Prewire: 

  1. Staple TonerCoil horizontally to the inward face of each stud to form a “U” shape with the TonerCoil. 
  2. Select two or more of the three starburst holes on the TonerCoil and alternately thread several inches of wire through the holes in a circular pattern. 
  3. The wires will automatically be in the middle of the stud space and can be more easily toned out for future use.
