BackBoxx™ Original™ Instructions

BackBoxx™ Original™

For Speaker Applications:

  1. Place BackBoxx™ Original™ horizontally into 24-inch-on-center ceiling joists, or vertically into 16-inch-on-center wall studs. (For narrower spaces, see Special Installation Instructions on reverse side).
  2. Using a staple gun, attach all four corners of BackBoxx Original flange to the outward edges of both studs .
  3. Using a knife or awl, from the back side, poke open one Wire Dimple Locator™ in back center of BackBoxx (ceiling mount), or on either end of BackBoxx (wall mount).

Using the TonerCoil™ Insert:  Wire positioning with the TonerCoil™ produces a concentrated signal tone during later locating & provides extra wire length to connect speakers.

Pull approximately 36” of speaker wire through the Wire Dimple Locator and through the center of the 3 starburst openings in the TonerCoil.

Fold the TonerCoil to form a triangular column and lock the tab. Wrap the loose speaker wire around the TonerCoil in a spiral pattern and finally, push the last 2” of wire through another of the starburst openings in the TonerCoil.

Push the entire TonerCoil into the BackBoxx Original and pull any slack speaker wire from behind the BackBoxx to help hold the TonerCoil in place.  Be sure the tip of the speaker wire is facing the open part of the BackBoxx.

Later, during speaker installation, when the drywall hole is cut, reach in and remove the TonerCoil and discard.

Use the bullseye target on the back wall of the BackBoxx Original to perfectly center the speaker between the framing and to match it with the pairing speaker.

     Go to Step 5.

Without the TonerCoil™ Insert:

  1. Pass a few inches of speaker wire through Wire Dimple Locator in BackBoxx Original, leaving generous slack wire behind the BackBoxx Original for later use.
  2. Seal opening around wire and Wire Dimple Locator with sealant.  Wall and ceiling vapor barrier film should be taped to BackBoxx Original on the flanges using approved sealing tape.
  3. Attach any speaker frame to stud faces, in front of installed BackBoxx Original.

Special Note: For applications involving spray foam insulation, use our KrushGuard™ insert to prevent damage to the BackBoxx Original.

Special Installation Instructions: To install BackBoxx™ Original™ in smaller ceiling or wall openings, cut straight down the center of BackBoxx Original from one flange to the opposite flange. Staple each half of BackBoxx Original in position separately. Overlap each half and tape both sides of the BackBoxx Original on the overlapping seam using approved sealing tape (such as mylar) and continue installation at step #3.
