BackBoxx™ Plus

 

Installation Instructions


Note: BackBoxx™ Plus™ is designed install ON TOP of 24-inch-on-center ceiling joists. (If installation is needed in narrower applications, -- see Special Installation Instructions on back)

  1. With a sharp knife, cut inward approximately one (1) inch along the perforation on each corner flap.
  2. Set BackBox™ Plus™ length-wise ON TOP of ceiling joists.
  3. Pull the BackBoxx™ Plus™ flaps downward to form a rectangular box with the ceiling joists.
  4. Staple the four corners of the BackBoxx™ Plus™ flanges to downward facing edges of ceiling joists.
  5. (Optional) Attach speaker or component bracket to studs directly in front of BackBoxx™.
  6. Using an awl, from the back side of the BackBoxx™, open one Wire Dimple Locator™ in either end of BackBoxx™ (wall mounting), or back center of BackBoxx™ (ceiling mount).
  7. Run wire through Wire Dimple Locator™ in BackBoxx™ and leave approximately 48" wire lead.
  8. Separate one of the TonerCoil™ sections from the sheet and hold it in front of the BackBoxx™ with the instructions facing you.
  9. Take the 36" wire lead and push all of it through the starburst hole in the middle of the TonerCoil™.
  10. Fold and lock the tab on the TonerCoil™ to form a triangular, rigid column.
  11. Coil the wire lead around the fold and locked TonerCoil™ from top to bottom, affixing the loose end of wire securely.
  12. Pull the complete TonerCoil™ assembly back into the BackBoxx™ by pulling excess wire lead from behind the BackBoxx™. Tapered ends of the TonerCoil™ will help hold assembly in place between the ceiling joists. The tapered ends of the TonerCoil™ may be stapled in place to prevent movement.
  13. Seal opening around wire and Wire Dimple Locator™ with sealant.
  14. Wall vapor barrier film should be attached to BackBoxx™ flanges using approved sealing tape.

    Note: When installing speakers, after cutting wallboard opening, reach into BackBoxx™ and pull out TonerCoil™ and discard.

Special Installation Instructions

To install BackBoxx™ in smaller wall or ceiling cavity, cut straight down center of BackBoxx™ from one flange to the opposite flange. Install both halves of BackBoxx™ separately by attaching flanges to outward facing edge of studs using staple gun. Seal the overlapping seam using approved sealing tape and continue installation at step #3.
